World Steel Association: Global crude steel production of 166.1 million tons in March 2025

In March 2025, the crude steel production of 69 countries/regions included in the World Steel Association's statistics was 166.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.9%.

Crude steel production in various regions

In March 2025, Africa's crude steel production was 1.9 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.6%; The crude steel production in Asia and Oceania was 123.6 million tons, an increase of 3.9% year-on-year; The crude steel production of the European Union (27 countries) was 11.7 million tons, an increase of 0.2% year-on-year; The crude steel production of other European countries was 3.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.2%; The crude steel production in the Middle East was 5.3 million tons, an increase of 1.9% year-on-year; The crude steel production in North America was 9.2 million tons, an increase of 1.4% year-on-year; The crude steel production of Russia and other CIS countries+Ukraine was 7.1 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.5%; The crude steel production in South America was 3.7 million tons, an increase of 6.5% year-on-year.

Africa and the Middle East show slight growth, while South America shows significant growth

The crude steel production in Africa was 1.9 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.6%. Although the growth rate was not fast, it performed steadily. The production in the Middle East was 5.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%, showing a certain degree of resilience. Of note is South America, with a daily output of 3.7 million tons, an increase of 6.5% compared to the same period last year, indicating a relatively fast growth rate. This indicates that the South American steel industry has strong development momentum.

Europe shows differentiation, EU maintains stable growth, Russia and other CIS countries decline

The production of the European Union (27 countries) was 11.7 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.2%, and remained basically stable. The output of crude steel in Europe and other countries (such as the United Kingdom, Türkiye, Norway, etc.) was 3.6 million tons, down 7.2% year on year. The crude steel production of Russia and other CIS countries plus Ukraine was 7.1 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.5%, indicating a decline in steel production in the region.

North American production maintains a growth trend

The crude steel production in North America reached 9.2 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%, with countries such as Canada, the United States, and Mexico showing stable performance, supporting the sustained development of the regional steel industry.

Overall, global crude steel production will continue to rebound in March 2025, particularly in Asia and Oceania, driving overall growth. Africa, the Middle East, and South America have also shown steady or rapid growth, while some regions such as Europe and Russia are facing certain challenges. In the future, with the continuous adjustment of the global economy and industrial chain, the development of the steel industry still needs to pay attention to regional differences and changes in market demand.
